The special lecture delivered by Ms. Pooja Jain on “An Insight into Insolvency and Bankruptcy Regime in India – Career Options” was advantageous to students.. The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code was given to them in a nutshell in a span of 30 minutes. on Career Guidance was very beneficial to the students as it threw a light on the various opportunities available for Advocates apart from being a lawyer. The Speaker, Sumit Kedia, Lunawath & Associate discussed about GST has replaced multiple indirect taxes, which were existing under the previous tax regime. The advantage of having one single tax means every state follows the same rate for a particular product or service. The idea of moving towards GST was first mooted by the then Union Finance Minister in his Budget speech for 2006-07. The Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers (EC) which had formulated the design of State VAT was requested to come up with a roadmap and structure for GST.
