Legal Aid Cell

The Legal Aid Cell during the post pandemic has undertaken by Dr. MGR faculty of Law on 21st April 2022 hosted by Senior Advocate, Mr.Karthekeyan at District court Poonamallee, with various programmes and projects, which inducts students to use their knowledge of Law to provide free legal aid to the poor, downtrodden and weaker section of the society. As the Legal aid clinic is the most significant programmes and projects undertaken in this academic semester was basically to better train law students thus attaching with senior counsels to gain practical experience to enhance their legal skills and knowledge. legal aid cell, active since 2022, has been a student endeavour under the active guidance of the knowledgeable faculty members and headed by Senior Advocate, Mr.Karthekeyan who has played a key role in the ideation and execution of the legal aid cell with his extensive experience and knowledge in clinical legal education.

We assisted not only helping with the seating arrangements but also supervising the support staff to provide all amenities that was required. The member explained the working of our legal aid group and approached Advocates present by explaining to them we would be more than happy to help in any kind of research or legal matters. The public after attending free legal aid programme had entered their names, residential address, contact number with their legal issues and remedy suggestions to them were all in a Register specifically designated for the purpose were kept in record for future correspondence and our group also mingled well with the trainees asking them about their background and a mutual cooperation was sought after. The Programme not only beneficial to the attendees but it also became beneficial for our cause as well.

The primary aim of the program was effort on the part of faculty of law to reach out to society and help in creating socially relevant lawyers and to enable such selected advocates to use the resource of the University to enhance their legal skills and knowledge. Our legal aid group volunteered for the successful organization of the programme. Our legal aid group collectively decided to distribute our contact pamphlets printed in Tamil with the contact numbers of the members in order to reach a wider network of people that were made for providing free legal aid We turned up early morning to assist the faculty responsible for the programme with arrangements and welcoming the trainees and attendees.
