Special Lecture on“New Dimensions on Intellectual Property Law”
The Faculty of Law is delighted to have organised a Special Lecture on the topic titled “New Dimensions on Intellectual Property Law” on 20th February 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Smart Classroom, Phase II Campus. The speaker of the session was Ms. U. Gayathri, Assistant Professor, Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science & Technology.
The speaker discussed various dimensions of Intellectual Property Law, including the theories of IPR such as Natural Rights Theory, Reward Theory, Incentive Theory, and Public Welfare Theory. She elaborated on contemporary issues like IPR and Public Health, Compulsory Licensing, and the balance between patent protection and access to medicines. She also referred to important case laws such as Novartis AG v. Union of India and Bayer Corporation v. Natco Pharma Ltd., explaining their practical relevance. The session further covered emerging challenges, including artificial intelligence, digital piracy, biotechnology patents, data protection, and global enforcement issues.
