The Faculty of Law organised the Second National Conference on 4th, 5th and 6th of January 2023. It was a “Three-day Conference on Reconstructing family Law in India with evolving modernity”. Our beloved Honorable Founder Chancellor Thiru Dr.A.C. Shanmugam Sir, Honorable President Thiru Er. A.C.S. Arun Kumar Sir, Distinguished Vice-Chancellor, Learned Pro-Vost, Respected Registrar, Additional Registrars, Joint Registrars, Executive Director, Director, Dean (FOL), Deans and Heads of the Departments and various Executive members attended the Inaugural function.
Day 1 was started by Justice Prabha Sridevan, (Former Judge) Madras High Court, whose inaugural address infused a great spirit in the participants.
Day 2 was set in motion with the technical session of Dr. Anuja, Associate Professor, Manipal Law School, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Bengaluru. The subsequent technical session began with Prof. David Ambrose, Former Professor, Dept. of Law, Madras University, who detailed on the topic “Uniform Civil Code (UCC) – Possibilities and Challenges”. The next technical session began with Dr.Amirtha Lingam, Associate Professor, Tamil Nadu National Law University, Trichy, who detailed on the topic ‘Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Family Law’. The final technical session ended at 3:40pm with Prof. Manju Arora Relan, Law Centre 1, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, Delhi, who spoke on ‘Restitution of Conjugal Rights – A diminished remedy’. Each session was followed by paper presentations and the students were enlightened with abundant knowledge on the broad scope of family law.
The conference was concluded on the third day (6th January, 2023), after two successful days of thought-provoking and interesting sessions. The day started off with the technical session of Dr.Krishna Murari, Assistant Professor (Sr.Scale), Law Centre 1, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, Delhi, on the topic “Effects of Marital Rape on Family”. The subsequent technical session began with Prof. Dilshad Sheik, Dean, School of Law, Sathyabhama Institute, Chennai, on the topic “Muslim Law of Inheritance”. The final technical session was presented by Ms.Jayasri, Advocate Madras High Court, on the topic “Working of Family Courts in India”. Each session was followed by paper presentations and the students were enlightened with abundant knowledge on the plethora of spheres discussed and its application in the practical world. The event was culminated with the valedictory session, which was graced by the virtual presence of Prof. Manoj Kumar Sinha, Director, Indian Law Institute, Delhi. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our respected patrons Dr.A.C.Shanmugam sir, Founder and Chancellor of Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute, President Er A.C.S. Arun Kumar, Vice Chancellor Dr. S. Geethalakshmi mam, Registrar Prof. C.B. Palanivelu, Executive director- legal- Prof.Dr. G.C.Kothandan sir, Director, FOL, Dean, FOL and all the distinguished resource persons for accepting the invitation and to the teaching and non-teaching members, organisers and students of phase II campus for their smooth coordination in organising this function in a grand manner.
