The Faculty of Law at Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute successfully organized a 5-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Research Methodology from May 11 to May 15, 2026.

The speakers masterfully mapped out the rapidly evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in legal education and practice. They provided a thorough overview of how mainstream tools—such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude—alongside specialized legal research databases like Westlaw Precision, Lexis+ AI, SCC Online, and Manupatra, are fundamentally transforming classroom learning, legal drafting, and research.

Key discussions emphasized how AI-powered tools enhance efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility in legal analysis, while Generative AI acts as a catalyst for faster document generation and automated clause suggestions. Furthermore, the speakers provided a clear roadmap for the future of legal practice by addressing current loopholes in India’s definition of AI. They analyzed existing regulatory mechanisms and strongly urged the creation of a comprehensive legal framework for AI governance in India.

The Faculty Development Programme was conducted under the able guidance of Prof. Dr. N. Murugavel (Director), Prof. Dr. N. Rajeshwari (Dean), and Dr. R. Gomathy Sankari (HOD).

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Senthilkumar, Dean (Administration), Phase II, and Dr. A.R. Arunachalam, Dean (Academics), Phase II, for their continuous support.
